Enhancing accessibility and efficiency: Introducing native dictation in our online editor
In an era where technology strives to bridge gaps and enhance accessibility for all users, the translation industry is no exception. Translation professionals worldwide increasingly rely on tools that not only streamline their workflows but also cater to their diverse needs, including those with visual and other impairments. Addressing this need for inclusivity, we’ve taken a significant step forward by integrating a native dictation capability into our online editor, a powerful browser-based editing environment for linguists and subject matter experts.

We announced this exciting integration back in December 2023. What makes this feature unique is that it not only provides the ability to transcribe text through voice input, but it can also execute various actions seamlessly, all with the power of voice commands. This marks a significant milestone for us in enhancing efficiency, not only for visually impaired users who can now navigate the editor in more efficient ways, but also for any user who prefers using dictation over typing. This new feature is now available in all Chromium browsers, such as Chrome, Edge and Safari.

The inclusion of the native dictation capability brings forward several very interesting benefits to the translation and review process:
  1. Streamlined Workflow: With over 130 supported actions and commands, translators can perform a plethora of tasks effortlessly – from confirming segments to navigating through target-language content, all by simply using their voice. This not only accelerates the translation process, but also minimizes the need for manual input, enhancing overall productivity.
  2. Accessibility: By embracing native dictation, we reconfirm our commitment to inclusivity. Visually impaired users can now engage with the online editing environment more effectively, breaking barriers that hindered their interaction with the platform previously. This democratization of access ensures that every user, regardless of their abilities, can leverage the full potential of the Trados platform.
  3. Multilingual Support: The dictation capability isn't confined by language barriers. With support for a range of languages including Chinese (Simplified), Czech, English (US), French, German, Italian, Japanese, Romanian, and Spanish, users worldwide can harness the power of voice input in their native tongue.
  4. Enhanced User Experience: Beyond its functional benefits, the native dictation capability enriches the overall user experience. By providing an intuitive and hands-free alternative to traditional input methods, Trados empowers users to focus on the creative aspect of translation, rather than being bogged down by technical intricacies.
  5. Increased Accuracy: Voice input, when coupled with advanced language processing algorithms, significantly reduces the margin for error. Users can combine dictation with other features, such as using Language Tool or similar grammar checkers, thereby enhancing the quality and precision of translations.
  6. Cross-Browser Compatibility: Whether users prefer Chrome, Edge, or Safari, Trados ensures a consistent and seamless experience across common browsers. This flexibility allows users to leverage dictation capabilities regardless of their browser preference.

In conclusion, the integration of the native dictation capability into the online editor starts a new era of accessibility, efficiency, and user-centric innovation in the translation industry. By embracing the power of voice input and empowering users with diverse needs, we reaffirm our position as a pioneer in the industry, setting a benchmark for inclusive and transformative technology.
