About Us

The BDÜ has been representing the interests of interpreters and translators for more than 65 years - both in Germany and internationally. It represents around 80 percent of all organized translators and interpreters in Germany and is the contact for politics, industry, trade and education.

Goals

  • Regulation of access to employment 
  • Improvement of training and further education through more practical relevance and imparting of specialist knowledge (professional specialization) 
  • Standardization of the examination system 
  • Uniform federal regulation of swearing-in, authorization and public appointment 
  • Uniform federal guidelines for the translation of documents 
  • Informing the public about the professional profile of the interpreter and translator and the importance of the profession for the state and society 
  • Impact on legislative bodies, authorities, courts and leading business associations
