About us:

The University of Ottawa is the world’s largest bilingual (English–French) university. Situated in the heart of Canada’s capital, it offers unparalleled access to the country’s major institutions.

In 1936, the University of Ottawa became the first Canadian institution to offer professional translation courses at the university level. This pioneering initiative was formalized in 1971 with the establishment of the School of Translation and Interpretation within the Faculty of Arts.

The School provides comprehensive training in professional translation as practiced in both the public and private sectors across Canada. Its curriculum includes general, specialized, and technical translation, as well as courses in documentary research, professional writing, terminology and lexicology, computer-assisted translation, and translation theory.

Graduates of the programs pursue successful careers not only as translators, but also as writers, terminologists, interpreters, public service professionals, and more.

Courses offered:

  • PhD, MA, BA, and Certificate in Translation
  • MA of Conference Interpreting
