The University of Montenegro is today an intellectual hub for the country’s development – a centre of scientific research, cultural-artistic, and innovative creativity. It is the oldest and only public university in Montenegro. As the most comprehensive higher education institution, it provides education across diverse fields, including social sciences, humanities, technology, natural sciences, and medical sciences. Teaching is organised in alignment with the curricula of esteemed universities within the European Higher Education Area, which, alongside numerous agreements and programs, enables seamless mobility for students, faculty, and administrative staff.

The study programs are structured across three cycles: undergraduate, master's, and doctoral studies. The 3+2+3 model means undergraduate studies last three academic years, except for regulated professions and teacher education programs, which last five and six years, respectively. Postgraduate master's studies are two academic years, and doctoral studies are three. Undergraduate and master's students are enrolled at the expense of the state budget.

The University of Montenegro is also the country's leading scientific research institution, strengthening its position through international cooperation and project activities aimed at supporting research capacity. Alongside notable research activities within its organisational units, the University includes three scientific institutes: the Historical Institute, the Institute of Marine Biology, and the Institute for Advanced Studies. As the central institution for science, culture, and the arts, it continuously fosters connections with the business, social, and international environment through productive collaboration with the business and public sectors.
