About us:
Université Joseph KI-ZERBO, the oldest and largest in Burkina Faso, was established upon a 1961 cooperation agreement between Upper Volta and France to assert national sovereignty in higher education. Initially the Center for Higher Education of Ouagadougou (CESUP), it became the University of Ouagadougou in 1974 and was later renamed Université Joseph KI-ZERBO in 2015 to honor the renowned historian and political figure.
The university hosts 44,860 students, of whom 33% are women, and is supported by 1,136 faculty members (616 full-time and 520 adjunct) and 520 administrative and technical staff (civil servants and contractors). It offers over 75 academic programs and boasts 54 research laboratories.
