About us:

The Institute for Foreign Languages and Area Studies (IFA – Institut für Fremdsprachen und Auslandskunde) in Erlangen operates two schools that teach professional language qualifications. Established in 1948 and affiliated with the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU), IFA is one of the oldest and most renowned institutes of its kind in Germany. IFA is a not-for-profit organization, state-recognized, and largely funded by state grants.
IFA’s “Fachakademie für Sprachen und internationale Kommunikation” is a post-secondary specialized academy that provides professional training and qualifications for prospective language specialists. Focussing on multilingual communication in an intercultural and international context, our central aim is to prepare our students with all the practical and digital skills for a successful professional career.
Our students benefit from the international backgrounds of our experienced lecturers, a supportive learning environment, and numerous opportunities for intercultural and international exchange.
