About us:

Babeș-Bolyai University (BBU) stands today as Romania’s oldest and largest institution of higher education, widely recognized for its excellence in teaching, research, and innovation. Tracing its academic roots to the 16th century, BBU embodies the rich cultural, scientific, and confessional traditions of Transylvania — a region renowned for its intellectual vitality and diversity. This historical legacy has shaped a distinctive academic profile grounded in multiculturalism, multilingualism, and European integration, ensuring that all educational programmes reflect both national and EU standards and values.

BBU’s mission is to foster an innovative academic culture that promotes systematic enquiry, research-based practice, and meaningful societal engagement. The university is firmly committed to advancing scientific and technological expertise, encouraging organizational growth, and cultivating active partnerships with local, national, and international communities.

Within this dynamic institutional framework, the European Master’s Programme in Translation Studies and Terminology (METT) occupies a distinguished place. A member since 2009 of the European Master’s in Translation (EMT) Network coordinated by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Translation, the programme meets the highest European quality standards in translator training. It responds directly to the evolving needs of the Romanian and international language services markets, preparing graduates to excel in a broad range of professional contexts.

Structured over four semesters, this EMT programme combines theoretical insight, practical expertise, and technological proficiency to develop translation competence at an advanced level. Beyond translation and terminology, the curriculum equips students for diverse language professions —including revision, terminology management, subtitling, and localization— while offering solid grounding in project management, marketing strategies, editing, and revision. Through its integrative approach and strong ties to the professional community, the programme nurtures a new generation of language specialists capable of navigating the complex demands of today’s global communication landscape.
