Trados + Localyzer: Bringing visual context to software localization

At RWS, we’re always looking for new ways to collaborate with partner technologies to enhance the localization experience for our users. That’s why we’re excited to announce a powerful new integration between Trados (cloud offerings and Studio) and Lingoport’s Localyzer, bringing real-time visual context to software localization workflows.
Why visual context matters
Translating software strings has traditionally been a challenge. Strings are often short, ambiguous, and disconnected from their user interface (UI), making it difficult for translators to understand their true meaning or placement. This lack of context can lead to:
- Misinterpretation and inconsistent translations
- Slower workflows due to tool-switching and guesswork
- Increased reliance on developers or reviewers for clarification
What this integration does
This new capability introduces live, segment-specific previews for .pxml files* directly within Trados. Powered by Localyzer, it automatically captures and associates visual context from web apps, mobile apps, and Figma designs, embedding a real-time UI preview in both our desktop and online editing environments. Translators can now see exactly where and how each string appears – without ever leaving Trados.
Example of software context in Trados powered by the integration with Localyzer
Trados and Localyzer users can access this functionality by simply downloading the free Trados Studio preview plugin and the .pxml file type configuration (including stylesheet for previewing in Trados cloud offerings) from the RWS AppStore (.pxml files are generated by Localyzer from any software strings).
Key benefits
Here’s how this integration improves your software localization processes:
- True visual context, natively embedded: Unlike static or external previews, this solution embeds a live iframe directly in Trados, showing exactly where each string appears - something most traditional CAT tools can’t offer.
- Smarter, more accurate translations: Real-time visual context helps translators understand each string’s meaning and placement instantly, improving first-time accuracy and ensuring consistency across UI elements.
- Faster, streamlined workflows: By focusing only on the active segment and its UI context, translators avoid unnecessary scrolling and tool-switching. This efficiency scales across projects, enabling faster delivery and better alignment with rapid development cycles.
- More efficient review, less rework: In-context translation reduces errors, shortening review cycles and lightening QA overhead. Teams spend less time fixing issues and more time refining content.
- Flexible, future-ready technology: Built on open standards (XML/XSLT), the solution integrates seamlessly into existing workflows and is easy to adapt as needs evolve. With optional AI prompt metadata, it’s ready to support intelligent, hybrid translation strategies – helping teams stay ahead as technology advances.
With this integration, Trados becomes a smarter, more intuitive platform for software localization - delivering real-time visual context, improved translation accuracy, and streamlined workflows. It empowers translators to work more efficiently and confidently, while enabling teams to reduce rework, accelerate delivery, and adapt seamlessly to evolving localization needs.
* A .pxml file is a unified XML format generated by Localyzer and used in Trados to handle software translation more consistently, replacing formats like .json, .properties, .strings, and .resx. It enables in-context previews in both Trados cloud offerings and Trados Studio (with the Localyzer plugin), so translators can see where the text appears.
