O Canada!
Our home and native land.
Where we measure our height in feet and inches and our weight in pounds, but we buy groceries in kg and drive in km/h. Where we cook in Fahrenheit but complain about the weather in Celsius. And now, where we have our own region of RWS Language Cloud.
Let’s back up a moment. What is RWS Language Cloud (LC)?
RWS Language Cloud is the platform on which all your Trados cloud products live, eh? Take an enterprise-grade native cloud platform, slice and dice it into various offerings such Trados Enterprise, Trados Accelerate, Trados Team, and Trados Studio, and it becomes familiar to everyone.
Well, this is cloud. It can be anywhere, you say. So why should you care about location?
You may or may not care, but someone in your organization is paid to care. It depends on who you are and where in the world you’re located. With advances in technology and connectivity over recent years, you may be able to get a quick connection to many cloud locations. But if you live in small-town Saskatchewan without a major internet service provider, you need a fast way to translate “my dog escaped 3 days ago but I can still see him running”. No stress – you have time to start using the Canadian RWS Language Cloud before your dog will find a hill to hide behind.
As Canadians, we take security very seriously. You never know who is going to try to steal your data or even the carrots sitting on your passenger seat.
Fortunately, RWS Language Cloud is far more secure than my car. Canadian data privacy laws are generally considered on par with UK and EU regulations, and we are committed to meeting or exceeding the controls enforced by law. Our commitment goes beyond data privacy: all the security features you’ve come to expect from Trados are in place in Canada, and we continue to develop with a security-first process for your peace of mind.
Canadian data residency is essential for government departments to use cloud technology. Next up: Protected B certification and a new snack!
Bilingualism is part of Canadian culture. Our constitution says English and French "have equality of status and equal rights and privileges as to their use in all institutions of the Parliament and Government of Canada”. Nearly one in five Canadians can hold a conversation both in English and in French. In the national capital region where the level of bilingualism is quite high, it’s very typical to hold a conversation in our special flavour of Frenglish. Ben, je vais continuer in English maintenant. Attache ta tuque et lessgo!
Hmmm, okay, say our friends to the south. How is this going to help me pay my doctor?
Unfortunately, we don’t have a solution for that. But the Canadian region of RWS Language Cloud is certainly going to speed up your everyday usage of Trados. Hopefully you can gain enough savings and efficiency, through lower latency, to pay for that annual checkup!
Uh oh, say our European friends. Does that mean our current setup is going to change?
Nein! The current LC setup in Frankfurt remains intact. It will, however, communicate seamlessly with the LC setup in Canada. Usage data will be sent to the EU - with tenant ID 123ABC created 38 projects today – but your content will only leave Canada if you explicitly allow it.
