Our commitment to you during transition

After extensive feedback from our customers, we have decided to transition away from TMS, Managed Translation, MultiTrans and GroupShare Cloud, and end-of-life these products as of December 31, 2025. We believe this positive step forward is in the best interest of our customers.

Our decision is rooted in listening carefully to what our customers are asking for:

  • Continuous innovation
  • Faster time-to-value
  • Predictable investments

To meet these expectations, we are honing our product portfolio by focusing our development efforts on our Trados offerings.

Together, we can create the future of translation.

FAQ's for End of Life

What is RWS announcing?

In order to focus our efforts on enhancing our Trados offerings, on 31 December 2025, we will end-of-life the following products:

  • MultiTrans
  • TMS
  • Managed Translation (ManTra)
  • GroupShare Cloud

For our customers who have these products installed on-premise with perpetual licenses, we recommend against their continued use as components will get outdated and we cannot guarantee that they will stay functional (a third-party component could be discontinued, etc). They must be used at your own risk as no security updates will be provided.

However, for customers with subscription or term licenses, these licenses will no longer be available after 31 December 2025. Similarly, for installations using our SaaS solutions, the product will be discontinued, and associated servers will be decommissioned.

These products will no longer be developed and our support team will no longer troubleshoot issues or provide installers or replacements licenses. Additionally, opening a Gateway case for these products will no longer be possible, and our Community forums for these products will be decommissioned.

Why is RWS doing this?

Through a series of acquisitions and mergers, RWS owns the largest portfolio of language technology solutions in the industry.

While our technology offerings are diverse, we acknowledge there is a crossover in the features and functionality across a number of our products.

The rapid pace of advancement in AI and other technologies presents many opportunities. To maintain our position as industry leaders and deliver world-leading secure solutions focused on productivity, automation, and reporting, we need to prioritize the development of the most leading-edge technologies that enable us to rapidly meet evolving demands.

Additionally, with the products that are entering end-of-life, as the underlying code begins to age, significant resources are required to maintain security and robustness.

How does this benefit our customers?

By directing the efforts of our R&D and Product teams towards a streamlined portfolio, we can accelerate our development processes, delivering better solutions with greater speed and efficiency. Through this we can provide customers with enhanced automation, productivity boosts, and user-friendly experiences.

Moreover, aligning with RWS's overarching strategy and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) objectives, the newer components are accessible for differently-abled users.

How does this benefit our partners?

While there may be an initial investment to properly support the newer platforms (if this is not already in place), once established, partners will benefit from managing fewer connections, integrations, and applications.

Can I renew support and maintenance?

Our commitment to providing support and maintenance extends to offering renewal options up to the end-of-life date of 31 December 2025. Please note that we will not be able to accept renewals that extend beyond this date.

To ensure a seamless transition, our commercial teams will work closely with customers to create a Support and Maintenance Agreement (SMA) that not only covers support for the end-of-life product, but also incorporates assistance for the chosen new RWS product.

Can I still use my product after 2025?

If your product is installed on-site with a perpetual license, it will remain operational beyond 31 December 2025.

However, while the product may continue to function, we strongly advise against prolonged use of any end-of-life product. As these products are no longer subject to routine vulnerability scans nor receive security updates, continued usage may pose risks to your data.

What are my transition options?

Please contact your Account Manager who will work with you to discuss and evaluate the options available.

Will you transition my data to a new solution?

If you are transitioning to an RWS solution, migrating your translation memories and terminology will form part of your transition plan. Project data will not be part of any transition.

How long will you keep my data?

After 31 December 2025, SaaS servers will no longer be accessible. However, backups are securely maintained for 30 days after decommissioning a server. In the event that restoration of data from these backups is required, fees may apply. We strongly advise removing your data from the product before the end-of-life date.

Will you destroy my data?

For those making the transition before the 31 December 2025, your data will be securely retained for 30 days post-transition before being permanently deleted. At the end-of-life date, servers will be decommissioned, with backups securely kept for 30 days prior to deletion.

Can I get proof of deletion?

A formal statement of data deletion can be provided upon request.

What if my data needs to remain in a particular region?

While on-premise solutions are still available, the adoption of cloud solutions has increased rapidly, offering organizations the flexibility to move from dedicated IT resources towards managing third-party technology and infrastructure.

We currently offer a highly secure cloud instance based in Europe, with the primary server located in Frankfurt, Germany and backups stored in Dublin, Republic of Ireland.  A new cloud instance is set to launch in Canada during Q3 2024 to further expand our global offering.

What happens if none of these regions work for my organization?

New instances in additional regions can be provided, though this will be based on demand.

What about the new Chinese data residency requirements?

Our Legal and Security teams are analyzing this in detail, though on-premise solutions are available.

What happens if my organization does not allow cloud technology?

Please share your security policies with your Account Manager, and we can review and address any concerns you may have.

Additionally, on-premise solutions are available.

What can I do now to prepare for transition?

We would recommend starting conversations with your Account Manager to explore the options available to you and your organization.

You should also have discussions with your end users to assess how your current implementation delivers on your business requirements, which may have evolved over time. Take this as an opportunity to evaluate and identify areas for improvement and how you can streamline processes.

Finally, consider the data needs of your organization beyond translation memories and terminology. Determine if any additional data sets are required and evaluate which historical reporting data would be useful to collect.

What about customizations?

Due to the nature of the cloud, customizations function differently compared to your existing RWS product.

During transition, any existing customizations will be placed into four categories:
  1. No longer needed: Customers review their current system and identify any customizations that are no longer required.
  2. Replaced by out-of-the-box features: The cloud offering may include features that remove the need for existing customizations.
  3. Replaced by process: As above, but involving changes to the customer’s current process.
  4. Required: Customizations that are deemed essential will need to be evaluated and rewritten to work within the cloud environment.

Who can I contact if I have further questions?

Please contact your Account Manager as they will have a understanding of your requirements and existing contract.

Specific FAQs for TMS and Managed Translation customers

Will my Managed Translation connectors and integrations work with Trados?

Please contact your Account Manager who can validate whether your connector or integration already exists in a different, or perhaps better form, with Trados. It may be necessary for some connectors and integrations to require rebuilding.

Our Professional Services team can assist with any consultation and development, through paid services tailored to your requirements. Additionally, they are available to work with you to determine whether such development work is necessary.

How complex will it be for my users to adapt to Trados?

Trados is based on the fundamental concepts that your users are accustomed to with TMS/Managed Translation, such as users, groups, workflows, and translation memories.

During the transition, our transition team will capitalize on these familiar concepts and draw parallels between your existing solution and the solution you're transitioning to.

The transition process includes comprehensive training sessions tailored for various members of your team. These sessions are designed to equip everyone with the necessary skills and knowledge to work easily in the new environment.

Will my Managed Translation users be forced to work in a more complex interface?

An integral component of our cloud offerings, the Customer Portal, has been designed with customer requesters and reviewers in mind.

Like Managed Translation, it has a user-friendly interface that is both intuitive and easy to use and navigate.

Functionality-wise, the Customer Portal offers similar capabilities for translation requesters, ensuring a seamless experience.

For reviewers, they can perform a review directly within the Online Editor, featuring an intuitive bilingual interface.
