Tell Me’s Five Most Searched Features — And Why They Matter

With 700 commands and 3,000 settings, SDL Trados Studio 2019 has never been more powerful or feature rich. So it was essential to create something that would make this highly comprehensive and feature-rich platform easier for beginners to get to grips with, and faster for experts to use.

Cue Tell Me: a smart search tool that doesn’t just tell you where to find that feature you’re looking for — it takes you there, too. A command that would otherwise take three or four steps to carry out can now be executed in a fraction of the time, and the same goes for advanced settings.

The Top Five Tell Me Search Terms (So Far)

  1. ‘Preview’ — the Show Preview command displays or hides the preview window, reflecting changes in the target document as you make them.
  2. ‘Find’ — this command opens up the Find and Replace window in the editor, allowing users to quickly navigate to a particular word in their translation to ensure consistency or run a global search and replace.
  3. ‘Save target as’ — allows you to save a target document in its native format.
  4. ‘Create return package’ — this command creates a return package for you to send back to the client with their newly translated copy.
  5. ‘Font’ — a setting rather than a command, this allows you to customize your working environment (eg: text size) for comfortable viewing.

The top four searches show us that users are leveraging Tell Me for everyday tasks, and that’s great; it proves that this isn’t a niche feature, but one that has wide appeal and usefulness — just type a few letters and go.

We’re not just looking at the successful searches though. We take a special interest in those searches that didn’t hit their mark, and update the Tell Me engine accordingly. Take the fifth item on our list, for example: we discovered that people wishing to optimize their workspace would often search for ‘Zoom’ rather than ‘Font’ to adjust text size, so we added ‘Zoom’ to the synonym list for ‘Font’.

So if you’re not quite sure of the syntax of the command or setting you’re looking for, there’s a high chance Tell Me will be able to figure it out and take you there — and that’s only set to become even more responsive as we analyze more of your search queries.
