At SDL we have been busy listening to our customers through several user focus groups, the new ideas community and product surveys, to ensure this Service Release is based on what our customers want. We are now happy to announce Service Release 1 (SR1) is ready and it is packed full of many key refinements to enhance the great features of Studio 2017 you have asked for!
LookAhead is a brand new feature to help you work even faster – you can now enjoy improved retrieval speeds when moving from segment to segment. While you are translating a segment, Studio is intelligently retrieving matches for the next segments to ensure you receive immediate matches from your translation memory, termbase and machine translation resources.
We are also excited to introduce a beta version of cloud-based terminology through our SDL Language Cloud service. SR1 users now have the opportunity to join our free technical preview for the SDL Language Cloud Terminology provider and help shape the future of this service.
Terminology is central to the translation process to ensure consistency and quality! Now you have the option to store and manage terminology in the Cloud as well as desktop. This exciting development opens up new possibilities such as easy sharing of terminology with colleagues to help to increase consistency, with access to the latest terminology.
upLIFT was a feature introduced with SDL Trados Studio 2017 to help translators get more from their resources and increase productivity but as with any new innovation, there are always improvements to be made. We have made several key updates to give you a better user experience with upLIFT technology.
It is now easier than ever to get started with upLIFT, with a simple upgrade process. You can upgrade your TMs with one click of the ‘upgrade’ button from the Studio home page. Studio will also let you know when you are using a TM that is not enabled for full upLIFT functionality, to help you understand if are getting the most out of your CAT tool.
We also wanted to make sure more of our users can use upLIFT, so I’m delighted to say this feature now supports AnyTM as well as Japanese and Chinese languages.
Since its release, upLIFT Fuzzy Repair has been a very popular feature and our customers have enjoyed the great automatic repairs it offers. However, sometimes the original fuzzy match can be more useful than the repair. We have some great news, you can now easily revert back to the original if you wish.
Another useful addition is when you hover over the repair you will now see a tool tip reference that will tell you the origin of the repair. For example, termbase (see below).
We hope you will also be pleased to hear there are also SR1 enhancements to error messages and file type handlings, which were issues highlighted to us during user focus groups. Error message handling is now improved to help you resolve issues faster. Links from the message will take you directly to relevant help from either the SDL Gateway articles or the SDL Community.
The updates to file type handling include the ability to translate embedded content without performing a manual extract with MS Office files, for example, Microsoft Excel charts within Word. Another exciting development is for one of our customer’s favorite features – real-time preview is now available for Excel and PowerPoint files.
There are a number of other great enhancements and fixes packed into SDL Trados Studio SR1 and MultiTerm SR1, which you can discover in the Release Notes.
Service releases are free and quick to implement so don’t wait to install and start benefiting from improved capabilities straight away.
