5 Things to do in New Orleans During ATA 59

With ATA 59 only a few days away, a lot of you might already be making your way to New Orleans for the conference (the SDL team is on route as I type this blog). To get you ready for ATA 59, we’ve put together 5 things you should think about doing in New Orleans before, during and after the event.

1. See live Jazz at Preservation Hall

New Orleans is the birthplace of Jazz, so it’s only right that you take some time to see some live Jazz in concert. The perfect place to do this is at Preservation Hall. Located within a 10-minute walk of the ATA 59 venue, shows take place nightly at 5pm, 6pm, 8pm, 9pm and 10pm and tickets cost between $40 – $50.

2. Discover everything the French Quarter has to offer

Not only is the French Quarter where the ATA 59 conference is taking place in New Orleans, but it is also the city’s cultural hub. The great thing about the French Quarter is it is one of the most historic neighbourhoods in New Orleans and blends Spanish, French, Creole and American styles together.

Whether you’re looking for a bar, restaurant or local attractions, the French Quarter has something for everyone.

3. Grab a sno-ball from Hansen’s Sno-Bliz

Colder weather might be on its way, but you still need to try a sno-ball. This treat is a mound of shaved ice flavoured with a variety of flavouring choices. One place you can visit to grab a sno-ball is Hansen’s Sno-Bliz (Open 1pm-7pm). Hansen’s selection of syrup flavourings and toppings include:

  • Banana
  • Blueberry
  • Strawberry
  • Bubblegum
  • Orangeade
  • Honey lavender
  • Pineapple
  • Marshmallows
  • Sherbet
  • Whipped Cream

Plus much more.

So if you fancy an ice-cold treat, head on over to Hansen’s Sno-Bliz (watch out for brain freeze).

4. Put on your dancing shoes for the ATA 59 Dance Party

After what will prove to be three fantastic days of learning and networking, it’s time to let your hair down at the ATA 59 Dance Party. The Conference schedule asks you to ‘Put on your dancing shoes’ to dance and laugh the night away.

The DJ will be providing a mix of Brazilian, salsa, disco, pop, funk and global dance music. And the SDL team will be throwing their best shapes on the dancefloor – it shouldn’t be too hard to find them!

The ATA 59 Dance Party takes place between 9pm-12am.

5. Visit the SDL team at ATA 59

Don’t forget to come and see us during your time at the conference. We are at booths 24, 25, 26, 27, 36, 37, 38, 39 and have lots of free goodies for you to collect – who doesn’t love a freebie? You’ll also have the chance to speak with the team and find out more about what’s new in SDL Trados Studio 2019.

If you’re in need of some SDL Trados Studio support, our experts will be on hand every day from 9am – 6pm at our Tool Support Station. You’ll be able to have 15-minute one-on-one sessions to get all of your questions answered. We look forward to seeing you!
