Trados’s cloud-based environment seamlessly integrates with our leading desktop CAT tool, providing unparalleled flexibility for translation management. With our scalable cloud platform, users can take advantage of continuous delivery of new innovations and features. In the first three months of 2023, we have released over a hundred cloud updates, resulting in dozens of new features for our users to enjoy!

We want to keep you up to date with the continuous developments to Trados, which is why we’re providing quarterly round-ups of our key updates. These updates are automatically available to our customers when they are released. For more information on all the enhancements we’ve made to Trados, please visit the RWS Community.

Better automation and intelligence with new translation management functionality

Workflow automation made easier: Improving the localization workflow is at the heart of Trados. Introduced in 2021, the workflow editor saves significant time by enabling you to customize and automate your workflows easily. As part of our ongoing commitment to workflow functionality, we have introduced Dynamic Assignment, which offers even greater flexibility and efficiency.

With Dynamic Assignment, users within an assigned group are identified based on settings specified by, for example, service type and language pair. This means only users who match the required criteria are assigned tasks, thereby streamlining the workflow process and eliminating the need for manual assignment.

Custom reporting improvements: Trados provides out-of-the-box reports to measure key translation performance metrics, such as quality, overall costs and savings, and turnaround time. And with the option to create custom reports, you can access more personalized insights based on data including project scope, translation memory leverage, and edit distance. With all this information consolidated within a single platform, Trados empowers you to develop data-driven strategies and make informed decisions that can enhance your translation workflow, improve project efficiency or optimize your budget.

We are continually enhancing the custom reporting functionality in response to user feedback. Our latest improvements include making it easier to use custom fields and expanding the data we capture for more comprehensive insights. Additionally, we have made it possible to integrate with business intelligence tools such as Power BI and Sisense to provide customers with greater flexibility in accessing and analyzing their data.
Streamline project creation and keep them running smoothly with translation collaboration enhancements

Customer portal enhancements: Our customer portal is designed to streamline the translation project management process, providing a simple and efficient platform for requestors to create, track and retrieve their projects. To enhance this experience further, we have introduced several new updates to the customer portal.

The latest updates include a new side pane, which provides easy access to additional project details such as project descriptions, thereby improving visibility and enabling users to manage their projects more effectively. We have also enhanced the data export feature to improve custom date range entry, making it easier for users to extract the specific data they need.

Project management user experience improvements: Trados is optimized for everyone, with role-specific interfaces. We know project managers spend a lot of time in their TMS, which is why we have released many new features to make their lives easier. For example, with the new Project Groups feature, users can add multiple projects to a group and perform bulk actions against all of them. This can be helpful, for example, if you have multiple projects that belong to the same larger program, or if an integration creates lots of small projects that are cumbersome and inefficient to manage individually.

Speed up translation processes and improve consistency with new translation productivity features

Improvements to the online editor: We are continually enhancing the user experience of our online editor, and one of the most important improvements is the Document Structure Information (DSI) side pane. This feature enables you to access additional context while translating, which is particularly useful when working with complex file formats such as DITA, custom XML, or Bilingual Excel.

In addition to the DSI side pane, we have introduced a new Smart Action that allows you to easily add or edit comments without using your mouse. We have also enhanced the functionality of the status bar, which now displays the number of selected characters for greater visibility and accuracy. Finally, we have improved the functionality of the CTRL+Del and CTRL+Backspace shortcuts to align more closely with Microsoft Word.

New OpenAI Translator app: The OpenAI Translator plugin for Trados Studio 2022 is designed to assist users in their translation projects by leveraging OpenAI’s language models. With key features such as providing alternative translations based on user-defined prompts, offering additional information about source/target content, and allowing automatic or manual translation triggering, users can improve their translation processes significantly.

The plugin supports GPT-4, GPT-3.5-turbo, and text-davinci-003 models, each with distinct capabilities and performance levels. Users can also create custom prompts to guide the AI, in addition to the five default prompts offered by the plugin.

To install the OpenAI Translator plugin, users can access it via the RWS AppStore or directly within Trados Studio 2022.
We hope you have enjoyed this quarterly round-up, and we look forward to bringing you our next round-up in July!
