About us
The University of Hildesheim is one of the first foundation universities in Germany. It is located in the city of Hildesheim in Lower Saxony and offers a wide range of degree programs with a strong practical focus in various subject areas. The research profile of the University of Hildesheim is characterised by interdisciplinary research centers and active participation in national and international research projects. The university promotes the international orientation in teaching and research through numerous exchange programs and cooperation with foreign educational institutions.
The Institute of Translation Studies and Specialised Communication at the University of Hildesheim focuses on multilingual communication in an intercultural and international context and on understanding the principles of creating and communicating subject-specific texts. Special attention is paid to analysing cultural influences on the comprehension of texts and adapting texts to different linguistic and cultural target groups in translation.
Courses offered:
- B.A. International Communication and Translation (IKÜ): Theory and practice of translation with a focus on language and cultural mediation.
- M.A. International Specialised Communication - Languages and Technology (SuT): Specialised translation in the field of technology and technical editing. The program is a member of the "European Master's in Translation" (EMT) network and holds the quality certification from the EU Commission's Directorate-General for Translation.
- M.A. Media Text and Media Translation (MuM): Monolingual and multilingual communication and translation in the field of audiovisual and electronic media.
- M.A. Barrier-free Communication (BK): Theory and practice of methods for overcoming communication barriers in different contexts and for different target groups.
