The 2022 Translation Technology Insights survey is now open

Discover why you should take part in the 2022 Translation Technology Insights (TTI) survey, an in-depth global survey designed to uncover what the translation industry needs.

As the translation industry continues to thrive and grow, so too do the challenges and pressures faced by localization professionals. In such a rapidly evolving landscape, it’s more important than ever that we keep our finger on the pulse.

That’s why we’re conducting our 2022 Translation Technology Insights (TTI) research, an in-depth global survey designed to uncover what the translation industry needs - we want to know what difficulties you face, how you want to work, and the advances in technology you need to do your job. This is the third survey of its type that we have conducted over the last six years, and we look forward to building on our understanding of the industry we serve.

Feedback from the TTI survey is carefully reviewed and helps to inform our product development. With over 3,000 translation professionals completing the 2020 Translation Technology Insights survey, our high-level findings and subsequent actions included:

1. Clients want translations completed fast and cheap

Translation professionals no longer feel pressure to provide high quality translations - this is now a given. Instead, you’re feeling pressure to deliver translations cheaper and quicker than ever. As a result, we’ve spent a lot of time developing our solutions to improve efficiencies and give you time back in your day. In our cloud platform, for example, you can now automate phases, employ workflows to keep projects moving without manual intervention and even customize them to suit your unique business processes (with Trados Enterprise). What’s more, with everything saved in the cloud, you can access your account through a browser on any device, enabling you to remain responsive no matter where you are.

2. Hybrid ways of working are becoming more popular

Choice is important to you - 50% of respondents stated that they would prefer to use hybrid translation software, i.e. a combination of both cloud-based and on-premise. Over the last two years we have improved the integration between Trados Studio and our cloud platform, allowing users to transition between the two environments seamlessly. Plus, we’ve enhanced the features in the cloud to bring its capabilities more in line with its desktop counterpart.

3. The use of machine translation is increasing

Language Service Providers (LSPs) use of machine translation (MT) has grown from 50% in 2016 to 65% in 2020, plus over 50% of LSPs stated it was most likely going to be their next translation technology investment. To provide users choice, we’ve now added add-ons to our cloud platform for some of the main MT providers available, so you can select the one that works best for your content.
It will be interesting to see how the translation industry has changed and developed over the last two years. Of course, once the results are in, we will share a detailed report on our findings.
What we need from you though, is your participation! Whether you’re a freelance translator, an LSP, or hold a translation role in a corporate translation team or public sector organization, we want to hear from you. The survey will take around 15 minutes to complete, and your answers are strictly confidential. By participating, you can also win one of two pairs of Apple Airpods Max!
Thank you for your support.
